Founders Day Mahoning River Walking Tour

September 8, 2019 @ 12:00 pm

Free

TWO TOUR TIMES AVAILABLE!  NOON AND 2:30 P.M.

Mahoning Valley Historical Society is partnering with Friends of the Mahoning River to lead walking tours around the Mahoning River’s Spring Common area as part of the History To Go Event Series 2019. This event is part of the overall commemoration of MVHS’s 144th Founders Day Celebration.

MVHS appreciates the support of Friends of the Mahoning River. Members of the group will accompany each tour and provide many insights regarding the ecological, industrial, and recreational aspects of the river.

Tours begin at Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St. in downtown Youngstown, and conclude at Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre along Front St. A guide will lead attendees back to Tyler History Center after each tour. Tour times begin at Noon and 2:30. If groups exceed 20 people, MVHS will add additional groups at 15-minute intervals. Attendees should check-in when they arrive at Tyler History Center.

Pre-register for the tour HERE or by calling 330-743-2589.

Actual start times will be determined per capacity at check-in. The tours are free but MVHS is suggesting a $5 donation to defray costs. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

Many other activities will be ongoing at Tyler History Center between Noon-4:00pm. Friends of the Mahoning River will also provide an informational display at the Founders Day Open House in the Tyler’s 2nd Floor Thomas Ballroom. Parking will be available in the adjacent lot on the west side of the building. The public lot costs $2.50 per spot, payable at the sidewalk collection box.
