A pivotal yet under-examined figure in medical and transgender history, Dr. Richard D. Murray (1921-2002) was a force in Youngstown, Ohio during the latter half of the 20th century. He was a patron of the arts, artist, author, prognosticator, and highly accomplished physician. Dr. Murray’s Medart building was his palace; for many, it was a gender crossroads. This presentation synthesizes original research from multiple archives, offering a look at the career of a path breaking plastic surgeon who saw their life’s work as helping people be the best version of themselves.
