The Dorothy Jones Honey

Volunteer of the Year Award

Dorothy J. Honey, former registrar, guide and volunteer, has invested untold hours of her time working for the improvement of the Historical Society in a multitude of ways.  Because of the inspiration she offers to all who know her, MVHS created the Dorothy J. Honey Volunteer of the Year Award to recognize outstanding volunteers.

2010 - Cortney Parsons

Cortney came to MVHS as a graduate student in library sciences at Kent State.  She completed a practicum for her degree and when that was finished stayed as a volunteer.  She has been cataloging like crazy and processed a very large (and messy) collection of court records.

2009 - Silke Grothe

A native of Germany, Silke has worked with several departments at MVHS cataloging collections and fabricating exhibits.  She started volunteering to improve her English.

2008- Priscilla Sutton

Priscilla drives to MVHS from Columbiana and spends a good part of her Wednesdays in the Archives assisting with research requests. Priscilla started volunteering at MVHS after helping a friend with research and realizing that she wanted to learn more about genealogy and Ohio law.

2007 - Paula McKinney

Paula has been a guide at the Arms Family Museum for the past 10 years, and during that time has also taken on the task of clipping articles of interest from the Youngstown Vindicator to file in the MVHS Archives for future researchers.  Paula told attendees of the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon that she has to “think like a researcher” to determine what will be important to someone in 20 years time.

2006 - Cate Rudnicki

Cate Rudnicki went above and beyond starting as an intern in the collections department.  She stayed on past her assigned hours and assisted with artifact cataloging and exhibit preparation.  She is now pursuing a Master of Arts Degree with a concentration in applied history at YSU.

2005 - Ester Hallaman

A retired teacher, Ester helps in the Education department developing and maintaining the museum in a suitcase materials, and providing assistance at public open houses.

2004 - Michael McCleery

Mike works weekly processing, re-housing and organizing materials from the J. Richard Rowland Steel Collection.
